This soba restaurant in Iwate is best known for their “Wanko Soba”. The name “wanko” comes from the Iwate dialect, meaning “bowl” or, more specifically, a small, wooden Japanese soup bowl. Wanko soba consists of a small serving of soba noodles in a small bowl. Visitors can eat as many bowls of the soba as they want. The current record for most amount of Wanko Soba eaten was set in 1996 with 559 bowls.
