According to legend, monks from Kyoto discovered the therapeutic waters of Shibu Onsen in 1303. Since then, the town’s public baths have been used by dignitaries, such as the samurai of the Sanada Clan during the Edo period (1603-1868). Take No Yu Onsen is the fourth of the nine bathhouses at Shibu Onsen Town. This bathhouse is famous for treating gout. Overnight guests at Shibu Onsen’s ryokans (Japanese inns) can access the nine public bathhouses for free.
