This Japanese restaurant features many of the local specialties from Akita Prefecture as well as a variety of staple Japanese dishes. Sakanaya Honpo recommends trying their Kiritanpo and Hinaidori (Hinai Chicken), two dishes for which Akita is well known. Kiritanpo have a texture between rice and pounded mochi. They are formed into cylinders, wrapped around Japanese cedar skewers and then roasted. Kiritanpo are typically served in soup or with sweet miso as a small dish. Hinaidori or Hinaijidori is a very special breed of chicken which is fed an all-vegetarian diet.
