The first jeans ‘made in Japan’ were made at this very street in 1960. Kojima Jeans Street is located in Okayama City, which is famous for producing denim. Originally, the street was called Ginza Street and used to be filled with many shops and shoppers. When the younger residents started to leave for bigger cities, the area became run-down. This is when jeans producers gathered to create the Kojima Jeans Street, a neighborhood project that brought life back into the town. Today, visitors can explore about 30 stores, cafes and shops, including an ice cream shop that sells denim ice cream.
