Fruit picking is a popular summer pastime for locals and visitors in Japan. This blueberry farm is located in Zao, Miyagi Prefecture, and ripe fruit is available for picking from mid-July to mid-August. However, the area is also fun to visit earlier in the spring to see the blossoms and later in the fall to see the turning of the leaves. A reservation 3 days in advance is required to visit Zao Blueberry Farm, if it is a large group. A cafe, dubbed “rest house”, just outside the farm offers treats made from these blueberries, including cakes, smoothies, ice cream, and sundaes.
