According to legend, a local girl named “Maapee” climbed the mountain with a broken heart and turned into stone at the summit. For this reason, many locals refer to Mount Nosoko by the name “Nosoko Maapee”. Sitting at 285 meters, hikers can reach the distinctly hook-shaped summit in about an hour. The hiking route is a natural dirt path with occasional rope guides for steep climbs. Visitors should note that the path becomes muddy and slippery after rains. On a clear day, viewers at the peak can see Ishigaki’s geographical highlights, such as the Nosoko coastline and the Hirakubo Peninsula.
